What is the Mosquers?
Based out of Edmonton, Canada, what started in 2007 as a modest short-film competition tackling everyday issues and showcasing the diversity and talents of the local Muslim community, the Mosquers today draws talented filmmakers, performers, and an audience from across North America and around the world.
The Mosquers was started to combat misconceptions about Islam and Muslims, demonstrate our diversity, and provide a channel for talented individuals to express themselves.
OUR VISION IS TO BE THE WORLD’S LEADING FILM FESTIVAL THAT TRANSFORMS THE WAY PEOPLE SEE MUSLIMS.
Over the past 10 years, films submitted to the Mosquers have entertained, inspired and educated our audience on an array of social issues. The Mosquers Film Festival continues to unite the community through a night of celebrating the art of film.
The Mosquers Awards Ceremony is now a premier event that attracts attention and talent from across North America. The event is comprised of:
A red-carpet gala
The screening of our short-film finalists (typically 6 to 8 films at about 10 minutes per film)
Featured artist performances - previous artists have included world famous comedians Jeremy Mclellan, Maz Jobrani, Ahmed Ahmed, Azhar Usman, and Mohammed Amer, musicians Brother Ali and Mona Haydar, and many others
The Awards presentation as selected by an expert panel of judges (up to $6,000 in awards) - previous judges have included Zarqa Nawaz (creator of "Little Mosque on the Prairie")
